We’ve just returned from officially the UK’s BIGGEST indoor music festival, The Big Reunion, and the event has everything you could possibly need to help you forget you’re stuck in another cold and rainy November in the UK.
Primarily booked by Club 18-30 holiday makers, who have spent their summer partying all across the mediterranean in resorts just like our very own in Zante, this festival is the closest you will come to reliving those summer memories.
Tourists from Zante, Corfu, Crete, Mallorca, Ibiza, Cyprus, Bulgaria and Kos come together for 1 weekend to celebrate everything summer, and the event was nothing short of spectacular. Hosted by a now state of the art Butlin’s Resort in Skegness, 5000 people descend on the seaside town as some of the UK’s hottest International artists hit the stage.
It all kicks off on the Thursday night for the real hardcore who can handle the extra night, this year saw Radio 1’s Danny Howard doing what he does best, followed by Big Narstie seeing the crowd through until about 4am. The sensible, including us, then hit the sack in preparation for the weekend ahead.
The accommodation provided at Butlins is actually a lot better than you would expect, with villa’s sleeping up to 6 people, it feels like home from home, all the amenities you could ask for and a decent heating system for nursing that hangover.
Friday starts with the majority of people getting checked in and then heading straight to the jellyfish lounge for pre-drinks, day soon turns to night and before you know it, it’s 10pm and Hannah Want’s is on the main stage playing to 3000 people. The perfect show to kick off the weekend, as soon as the first headline of the night had done her thing, 2 more arena’s opened with an opportunity for you to navigate your own musical destiny.
Red’s hosted the likes of Blonde & Phillip George while in Centre Stage you could see Ms Dynamite and Lethal Bizzle amongst a host of others. We tried to see as many acts as possible, and it was Lethal Bizzle who was the Friday night showstopper in our opinion, great crowd, great performance.
Saturday starts as soon as you’d like it too, and the best way to cure that hangover is to head down to the Sub Tropical Aqua Splash World (Indoor Pool) for a massive pool party to relive those summer days spent at Pure Beach Club. If you don’t fancy that, then there are plenty of other options including a beer pong tournament with a £1000 prize fund, or just head to the sports bar for the Jeff Stelling drinking game with your mates.
All this is great prep for Saturday night, the biggest night of the weekend and it was opened with a massive performance by Rudimental, it seemed like all 5000 festival goers were there and it was an amazing atmosphere from start to finish. Once again, the other 2 arenas opened after Rudimental where the numerous other acts included DJ Hype, Tom Zanetti, Sigala and Sigma! As you can imagine, it was a pretty great way to end the festival.
We won’t go into details about the drive home on Sunday after a midday checkout, all we can say is… SEE YOU NEXT YEAR!
